Description

At UK Beauty School, we offer the VTCT Level 3 Award in Media Make-Up course in a structure that saves you a lot of time compared to the Further Education College route and offer a flexible way for students to achieve a more advanced qualification.

Following practical training days, students are given written and practical assignments to be completed at home. Students then return to the school for a pre assessment appointment before attending their assessments. To comply with the rigorous NVQ assessment procedure, it is essential that student provide models to work on during their assessment days.

The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Fashion and Media Make-Up includes the following units:

Client care and communication in beauty-related industries

This is a preparation for work unit which is based on capability and knowledge. This unit is about client care and communication in beauty-related industries. You will develop your ability to adapt the provision of client care and your communication skills, to the needs of different clients, as well as learn how to manage client expectations.

Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon

Through this unit you will develop your skills in a supervisory role focusing on health and safety within your salon. You will recognise salon hazards, carry out risk assessments and then implement the necessary actions. You will monitor and support your colleagues to ensure your salon complies with health and safety requirements. You will implement and supervise salon procedures for all aspects of salon safety and security including the need for insurance.

Fashion and photographic make-up

This unit is about designing and applying fashion and photographic make-up and includes incorporating current fashion trends, historical/period and special occasion make-up. You will also learn about make-up for both colour and black and white photography

Promote and sell products and services to clients

This unit will help you to develop your skills and knowledge in the products and services you use and sell. Working through this unit will help develop your skills in techniques for effective communication with your clients, interpreting buying signals, managing client expectations, introducing new products and services, describing the features and benefits and learning how to close a sale. This unit is about keeping pace with new developments and encouraging your clients to take an interest in them.

Mode of Study

At UK Beauty Schools, we run this qualification in a unit by unit form. This allows you to work at your own pace and fit your studies around your current commitments. For your 1st unit, you will attend the practical day, complete the home study elements (practice diary, case studies and assessments) and then return to the school for your live assessments and paper tests. Once the unit is complete, you will go through the same process for the rest of the units until the qualification is complete. You will get up to 2 years to complete the qualification with this route, however it can be completed in as little as 6 months. Failure to complete the qualification within 2 years could result in additional assessments fees.

By signing up for the qualification, you are making a commitment to completing all requirements for the course so please ensure that you chose the most appropriate route for you.

FAQ

Where is the training conducted?
All courses are held at our Beauty Schools located in Chatham, Kent. Parking is available opposite in Union Square Pay & Display (Behind GALA Bingo).

When do we gain access to online training?
Students receive access to our online training area before attending the school. This allows them to complete the theory at their own pace, ensuring better absorption of information. It also maximises practical time, enabling tutors to demonstrate best practices and address any questions.

Diploma vs. NVQ/VRQ qualification difference?
The choice depends on your goals. For personal use or home-based businesses, a diploma by the Beauty Guild is recommended. If working in a Salon or Spa is your aim, an NVQ/VRQ qualification is usually required. Opting for NVQ/VRQ involves an additional assessment day, automatically awarding a diploma qualification.

Upgrading to VRQ/NVQ (VTCT)?
After completing the Diploma day, home study includes a Practice Diary, Case Studies, and an Assignment to demonstrate knowledge. Access to online documents and support from our NVQ Coordinator is provided. Assessments and written exams occur at the school, with home study taking 2-8 weeks.

Can a diploma be upgraded to an NVQ later?
Yes, an upgrade is possible for specific treatments. An additional fee is applicable for the upgrade, and all necessary materials for the NVQ qualification are provided. Assessment day scheduling at the school follows.

Can insurance be obtained with a Diploma certificate?
Insurance companies accept both Diploma and NVQ certificates. Our specialised insurance scheme through Salonsafe offers tailored coverage for qualified students, encompassing treatment risk as standard.

Refund policy for course cancellations?
Refunds depend on circumstances and notice given (refer to T&C). Medical notification is required for illness-related refunds. No refund is possible if online theory has been accessed/completed.

Is home study required?
Yes, home study includes online theory and practical practice after the course. Approximately 6-8 treatments are recommended for enhanced confidence. Free refreshers are offered within 6 months if additional training is needed.

Class size and model requirements?
We keep class sizes small (around 4 students) for personalised attention. Some courses may require models, and for NVQ/VRQ, students provide their own models for Assessment Days.

Attire and standards for attending courses?
Students must adhere to professional standards in attire, including a tunic or black top with trousers, covered shoes, tied-back hair, and well-kept hands/nails.

Course finish time and requirements?
Finish times vary; check the course on the website for details. Students may need to bring a pen and paper, but all materials are provided.

Accreditation and certificates?
Courses are approved and accredited by The Guild of Beauty Therapists (Diploma), VTCT (VRQ), or UKBA (UK Beauty accreditation). Certificates are issued based on meeting standards for theory and practical delivery.

Certificate issuance timeline?
Diploma eCertificates are emailed within 7 days after the course. Hard copies can be purchased for £10. NVQ certificates are issued by the awarding body.

Finance options for courses?
Yes, various finance options are available during checkout.
